35 African Olives (Olea africana) growing along Newbridge Street in East Palo Alto. 2nd growing season. Planted from #5’s and #15’s - hard to tell the difference even after just over a year. Planting smaller stock almost always yields long term benefit. Trees are being carefully pruned to have a central leader, and to keep plenty of shortened, low, temporary branches to speed growth and establishment. African olive is native to the savannas of Africa, and are very tough. They produce small, oil-type olives. Very strong growing trees. Tend to be bushy.
